Patrick van Weerelt explains the Rubik’s Cube as an Analogy for Sustainable Development
The idea of sustainable development means that, for an intervention to be sustainable, it must take into account the social, economic, and environmental consequences it generates and lead to conscious choices in terms of trade-offs, synergies, and spinoffs it creates. Watch Patrick van Weerelt's video as he explains how the Rubik's cube can help us understand the concept of sustainable development.
Climate Action for Sustainable Development
For a climate intervention to be sustainable, it must take into account not only the environmental, but also the social and economic consequences it generates. Otherwise, the trade-offs between environmental gains and social and economic losses could be detrimental to achieving true sustainability. On the other hand, without climate action we will not manage to advance the wider sustainable development objectives and might even face reversal through strains on the environment, which can jeopardize development gains.

2030 Agenda and the SDGs are not merely items on a checklist but represent a holistic approach to understanding and tackling problems by guiding us to ask the right questions at the right time. We need to consider several challenges in order to work out how they connect with and impact upon each other. But how does that work? Watch this explainer video to learn more.
