Harvesting synergy from sustainable development goal interactions

As countries pursue sustainable development across sectors as diverse as health, agriculture, and infrastructure, sectoral policies interact, generating synergies that alter their effectiveness. Identifying those synergies ex ante facilitates the harmonization of policies and provides an important lever to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. However, identifying and quantifying these synergetic interactions are infeasible with traditional approaches to policy analysis.

MYWorld2030 Toolkits

MY World is a global citizen survey to bring people’s voices into official debates about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Almost 10 million people from 194 countries voted in the  first MY World survey to help define the global goals. After the goals were adopted, the MY World 2030 survey was launched to make sure every person can have their say on SDG achievement. From now until 2030, we want as many people in as many countries as possible to be involved in MY World.  This is history in the making!

Voluntary National Reviews Synthesis Report 2019

This report synthesizes some of the main issues addressed in the fourth round of VNRs that took place during the 2019 HLPF under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), from 9 to 18 July 2019. 47 countries presented their VNRs: seven countries conducting their second VNR presented on 15 July1 and 40 countries presenting a VNR for the first time presented during the ministerial segment of the HLPF, from 16 to 18 July.2

SDG Linked Open Data Identifiers

At the recently concluded United Nations System Chief Executive Board (CEB) session, the  UN Secretary-General emphasized the crucial role of high-quality, timely, and reliable data, disaggregated and supplemented with necessary contextual information, for the success of delivering the SDGs.  National statistical systems face challenges not only in producing statistics to fill data gaps, but also in integrating and making existing SDG-related data and information accessible to decision-makers in a user friendly and practical way.

UN in BiH – SDG consultation tool

The United Nations team in Bosnia and Herzegovina recognized the need to promote the SDGs in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Therefore, they decided to organize, within the “Imagine 2030” initiative, a whole series of workshops throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina and to involve as many people as possible from different sections of society, namely, the civil society, the government institutions and the private sector in order to start a story and dialogue on how we can address different problems facing the society and achieve the SDGs.

Mapping volunteer actions to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs in Asia

"Accelerating Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Asia: Taking a Fresh Look at Volunteerism" was the topic of discussion at a regional workshop held in Bangkok, Thailand last week (11-12 November). Stakeholders from five countries gathered with the aim of applying ‘systems thinking’ to map specific entry points and actions where volunteerism could accelerate progress on the SDGs.
