At the recently concluded United Nations System Chief Executive Board (CEB) session, the UN Secretary-General emphasized the crucial role of high-quality, timely, and reliable data, disaggregated and supplemented with necessary contextual information, for the success of delivering the SDGs. National statistical systems face challenges not only in producing statistics to fill data gaps, but also in integrating and making existing SDG-related data and information accessible to decision-makers in a user friendly and practical way.
Thus, the Secretary-General drew attention to the recently developed common system of Identifiers for Goals, Targets and Indicators, which promotes an ecosystem of machine-readable documents based on Linked Open Data principles.
This important initiative was completed under the aegis of the High-Level Committee on Management (HCLM) as an example of innovation on data and analytics to accelerate SDG implementation at scale. The Identifiers provide the foundation for automatic retrieval, processing, and integration of SDG-related information.
The SDG Identifiers are published and stored on the website of the UN Library at http://metadata.un.org/sdg/?lang=en
