Organisational Background

Since 1961, UNESCO Bangkok has had a dual role as both the Regional Bureau for Education and as a Cluster Office in Asia-Pacific.

As a Regional Bureau for Education, UNESCO Bangkok provides technical expertise and assistance and serves advisory, knowledge production and sharing, monitoring and evaluation functions to assist Asia-Pacific Member States and other UNESCO field offices and antenna office in the area of education.

To enable the advancement of Indian industry to a position of eminence in the global marketplace and leverage India’s emergence as the world’s supplier through the ‘Made in India’ mark. MISSION:To develop and implement a ‘ZED’ culture in India based on the principles of: Zero Defect (focus on customer) Zero non-conformance/non-compliance Zero waste Zero Effect (focus on society) Zero air pollution/liquid discharge (ZLD)/solid waste Zero wastage of natural resources.

In 2007, a group of university students became increasingly aware of the excessive amount of photocopy paper wasted by people using only one side of the paper. To reduce this waste, they developed a way to efficiently use both sides of the sheets by turning them into perfectly usable notebooks. In the beginning, these notebooks were only used by the group of students themselves, but it soon became clear that their production exceeded their need. So, they decided to use them for a good cause.

The Maldives, an atoll island chain consisting of 1,192 islands in the middle of the Indian Ocean, are at high risk from rising sea-levels with a maximum elevation of 2.4m above mean sea-level. More than 44 per cent of settlements and 70 per cent of all critical infrastructure are located within 100 meters of shoreline, which makes them highly vulnerable to flooding and coastal erosion. Climate change induced sea-level rise will increase extreme levels due to storm surges and swell waves, exposing islands population, infrastructure and livelihood assets to increasing flood risk.

The development of low-carbon transport models and sharing mobility are central to transforming carbon-intensive urban transportation systems and an important step towards achieving overall sustainable urban development. The rise of the sharing economy phenomenon has inspired numerous types of disruptive innovations with the potential to drive climate-smart urban transformation (Lan et al., 2017), particularly in the unique context of China.
