CRVS systems play a key role in monitoring and facilitating progress towards the SDGs. As the best source of continuous and up to date information on birth, death, health and population statistics, CRVS is needed to measure a wide range of population-based SDG targets. Legal documentation provided by civil registration systems helps to reduce trafficking, statelessness, sexual exploitation and child marriage. Improving CRVS is also an SDG objective in its own right and is covered by Goals 16.9 and 17.19.

Organisational Background
Since 1961, UNESCO Bangkok has had a dual role as both the Regional Bureau for Education and as a Cluster Office in Asia-Pacific.
As a Regional Bureau for Education, UNESCO Bangkok provides technical expertise and assistance and serves advisory, knowledge production and sharing, monitoring and evaluation functions to assist Asia-Pacific Member States and other UNESCO field offices and antenna office in the area of education.
Education is a fundamental right, and it is also the most powerful tool we have for sustainable development. Investing in a quality education for every child, youth and adult is essential - not only to achieve the education related goals and targets, but to realize the other sustainable development goals and targets.
