The development of low-carbon transport models and sharing mobility are central to transforming carbon-intensive urban transportation systems and an important step towards achieving overall sustainable urban development. The rise of the sharing economy phenomenon has inspired numerous types of disruptive innovations with the potential to drive climate-smart urban transformation (Lan et al., 2017), particularly in the unique context of China.

Sugarcane production is an important activity and a major employer in the African agriculture, with an estimated six million people deriving their livelihood from the sugar industry. Given these contributions, any factor affecting the industry has an impact on the overall economy. With a relatively low adaptive capacity and poor forecasting systems and mitigation strategies, sugarcane farming is anticipated to be significantly impacted by climate change, just like other agricultural sectors, especially in developing countries.

Asia and the Pacific is the region most affected by natural disasters which hit hardest at the poorest countries and communities. And on present trends, as more migrants crowd into slums and shanty towns in Asia-Pacific cities, whole communities are likely to see their homes and livelihoods shattered or washed away by the wilder forces of nature.

Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies in Asia and the Pacific addresses the theme of the 5th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development and the 2018 session of the high-level political forum on sustainable development and supports national and regional implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The “Implementing A ‘Ridge to Reef’ Approach to Protect Biodiversity and Ecosystem Functions in Tuvalu (R2R Tuvalu)” project aims to maintain and enhance biodiversity and ecosystem services, sustain livelihoods, and improve resilience.

The report covers many areas of the 2017 work of UN Climate Change, which includes the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Kyoto Protocol and Paris Agreement, as well as their bodies, institutional arrangements, organs and the secretariat.

This Compendium provides a review of available tools related to the integration of environment into policy and planning in order to deliver sustainable development in the Asia and Pacific region. In the context of this task, the term ‘tools’ is interpreted broadly in order to ensure that as wide a range of potential tools and processes as possible is considered that could be used to integrate the environmental considerations of sustainable development into the Policy Cycle.
