Google Earth Engine (GEE) for remote sensing applications is quickly becoming one of the most utilized tools in the scientific and decision-making community. GEE provides unparalleled access to large-scale data analysis through cloud computing technology. The online interface allows users to access and analyze stores of NASA Earth data without the need for any locally stored data or software. This training will cover the GEE Code Editor, hands-on exercises on change detection, time series analysis, land cover classification, and accuracy assessment of optical imagery.

A robust National Forest Monitoring System (NFMS) can support the formulation, monitoring and adjustment of sub- and national forest-related policies, inform citizens and stakeholders and help track progress towards sustainable forest management and reducing emissions related to forest loss.

Operationalization of the Regional Drought Mechanism: Mongolia
To help address the challenges of drought monitoring, Mongolia became the first pilot country for ESCAP’s Regional Drought Mechanism. The process began in 2013 following a request to ESCAP to pilot the Mechanism through the Mongolian National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) within the Information and Research Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment (IRIMHE).
