To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Earth Day movement and promote climate action in office environments, the United Nations are organizing a free webinar on practical steps to green workplace environments.

Building on the successful experience of the United Nations in greening their facilities and operations in Bangkok, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) will share best practices and provide guidance on how to get started on climate action in the workplace, and what main operational areas to target.

What:

This four (4) day event will provide an opportunity for young people from around the globe to come together to discuss, find solutions, share best practices and develop innovative projects on ocean issues pertaining to marine pollution, climate change related impacts on the oceans, sustainable blue economy among others.

Environmental-Economic Accounts are increasingly a mainstream tool for measuring the condition of the environment, the contribution of the environment to the economy and the impact of the economy on the environment. Water Accounts, Land Accounts, Greenhouse Gas Emission Accounts and Energy Accounts are just some of the more commonly available environmental-economic accounts. However, ecosystems are of increasing national, regional and global importance and countries are asking: why invest in ocean accounts?

Illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing causes financial losses and decline in fish catches, harms biodiversity, and facilitates transnational crime and threatening human security. The Coalition of Municipal Fisherfolk Associations (COMFAS) was formed by fishers’ organizations to tackle illegalities and degradation of natural resources. COMFAS works closely with the Xavier Agriculture Extension Service Foundation Inc.

The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) hosted the first Asia Pacific Day for the Ocean in 2018. At the 75th Session, member States requested continuation of the work on the ocean. The Commission also decided the theme of its seventy-sixth session as: “Promoting economic, social and environmental cooperation on oceans for sustainable development.”

The Pacific Data Hub holds a large and diverse collection of data, data insights, publications, and knowledge products on the Pacific across key sectors, including population statistics, fisheries, geoscience, agriculture, aquaculture, energy, education, human rights, climate change, and oceans, and it continues to grow.
