This guide was designed with a dual purpose. First, to empower the UN and its stakeholders to go beyond “consultations” for the SDGs and be innovative and creative in their advocacy, outreach and communications efforts. Second, to compile and make a wide range of SDG tools and resources accessible to community leaders, social activists, volunteers and many other SDG changemakers, who can in turn engage with the wider community and help realize the SDGs.
With this in mind, this curated list of fun and easy-to-implement SDG advocacy and outreach resources, toolkits and publications was not meant to be a comprehensive overview.
- If you are a policy maker, government official or UN staff member who would like to facilitate public outreach for the SDGs, or work closely with young people and volunteers, take a look at this guide for SDG advocacy campaign strategy inspiration.
- If you are a community leader or a CSO activist who would like to address development issues in your community and city, check out this guide for innovative methods to engage and energize your audience.
- If you are from the private sector and would like to better understand the SDGs and start with some fun activities, this guide will provide you with various innovative examples that can be incorporated in your SDG outreach work.
This document was inspired by the SDG advocacy programme, MY World 2030 Advocates Programme in Asia-Pacific. 100 SDG Advocates based in 23 countries have implemented extremely innovative work at the grassroots and local levels, engaging with a range of stakeholders, especially targeting marginalized and vulnerable groups. Several of their best practices are featured in this compendium.
It was made available on AirTable – an interactive online platform that is visually appealing and easy- to-use, but also act as a database that can be filtered in multiple ways – at this hyperlink (sign-in required).
Last but not least, have your say on this guide! If you have any feedback, or you would like to contribute your own best practices, please feel free to write us and share your experience: Ms. Nadine Ravaud, nadine.ravaud@undp.org.
