IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (Working Group 1 Contribution): Climate Change 2021-The Physical Science Basis

The Working Group I contribution to the Sixth Assessment Report, Climate Change 2021: The Physical Science Basis is now out The report addresses the most up-to-date physical understanding of the climate system and climate change, bringing together the latest advances in climate science, and combining multiple lines of evidence from paleoclimate, observations, process understanding, and global and regional climate simulations.

Satellite Observations for Analyzing Natural Hazards on Small Island Nations

Small island nations are highly vulnerable to climate change and natural disasters; among them hurricanes, cyclones, and other violent storms. These disasters can lead to severe flooding, landslides, and, in the worst cases, can result in the loss of life and property. In addition, a rise in the global mean sea level places island nations at a higher risk for permanent submersion of land, coastal erosion, coastal ecosystem loss or change, salinization, and impeded drainage.

Safeguarding the 2030 Agenda by harmonizing climate action plans with green recovery

4 June 2021 – The world is still grappling with the profound economic, social, and environmental impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. These impacts offer a glimpse of what the land use and agriculture sectors will endure if a systemic transformation towards climate resilience is not achieved by 2030. To tackle this challenge, FAO and UNDP are making sure COVID-19 considerations and green recovery are central to countries’ climate action plans for agriculture.

Teach The Future Campaign

The Youth 4 Climate Action Project (Y4CAP) delivered a successful workshop to over 1,000 students at Tilak High School in Fiji to raise awareness on climate change, marine ecosystems, the Sustainable Development Goals, and leadership. In continuation of the awareness campaign on good environmental practices, a sandalwood planting exercise was also conducted at the school.
