SDG Pulse

SDG Pulse

The SDG Pulse is an annual statistical publication reporting on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The purpose of this report is to provide an update on the evolution of a selection of custodian or co-custodian SDG indicators along with complementary statistics that reflect UNCTAD’s broad mandate.

This report also presents some case studies from UNCTAD’s development programme from a statistical perspective – presenting UNCTAD’s activities and successes in hard numbers. These case studies are important as they also illustrate the Results Based Management approach being adopted by UNCTAD – helping us to improve our responsiveness and accountability to member states.

Every year, the SDG Pulse highlights a specific aspect of the 2030 Agenda and discuss this issue from the slant or perspective of statistics. For the first edition (2019), some aspects of inequality are discussed, including global economic and income inequalities, and also an emerging new dimension for inequality in a data driven world – access to data.

sdg16datainitiative

The SDG16 Data Initiative

The SDG16 Data Initiative is a collective project by a consortium of organisations seeking to support the open tracking of the global commitments made by more than 194 countries on peace, justice, and strong institutions.

The initiative aims to complement the current efforts underway to develop an official indicator framework for monitoring the SDGs and respond to the gap in comprehensive data on SDG16 issues. The Inter-agency Expert Group on SDG Indicators (IAEG-SDGs) has identified 23 global indicators under SDG16’s 12 targets. It is intended that national statistical systems will eventually produce the majority of the data for these indicators. The UN Statistical System and other global organizations will then collate this official data at the global level.

UN Global Survey on Trade Facilitation and Paperless Trade

To help countries benchmark and reduce the time and cost of trading across border, the UN Regional Commissions jointly conduct the UN Global Survey on Trade Facilitation and Paperless Trade. The Survey currently covers 120 countries around the globe, and 47 measures related to the WTO's Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA), as well as emerging regional and global initiatives on paperless trade or e-trade, such as the recent Framework Agreement on Facilitation of Cross-Border Paperless Trade in Asia and the Pacific (FA-CPT). The Survey leads to the production of a Global Report and five Regional Reports, which aim at providing insightful information for policy makers to harness trade as a key means of implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Survey is conducted in collaboration with growing number of global and regional partners, since 2015 and every two years.
