Under Smart Campus Cloud Network (SCCN), the way forward is ‘learning by doing’. The Toolkit is prepared to jump-start activities by providing practical knowledge to educational campuses about the activities to be carried out in campus related to SDGs. The guidelines suggest how activities around IoT (Internet of things), AI (Artificial Intelligence), Cloud-networking infrastructure could be used over and above the guidelines on effective waste and pollution management.

MapX is a spatial data infrastructure that aims to support the sustainable use of natural resources and the environment by increasing access to the best available geospatial information and related monitoring technologies. MapX is supported by an online, open source platform that provides authoritative spatial data at local, national and global scales and a set of on-line tools to visualize, analyse and access geospatial data. The Global Climate Action portal is an online platform where actors from around the globe - countries, regions, cities, companies, investors and other organizations - can display their commitments to act on climate change. The aim is to present a clear, comprehensive view of Global Climate Action, recognizing actors and inspiring still greater ambition, for the good of current and future generations.

The guidebook aims to achieve this objective by providing guidance in requisite tools and methodologies required for developing bankable adaptation projects along with information on alternate funding sources and investment models available to the private sector to mobilise funds for climate change adaptation.

The UN Development Programme recognizes that bridging the massive gap in adaptation financing will require significant private sector investment and engagement, and is committed to working with the private sector to address the deficit in adaptation finance.

Recent cost estimates associated with adapting to climate change risks are two to three times higher than available international public finance for adaptation. According to the Adaptation Finance Gap Report, the international public finance available for climate change adaptation in 2014 was US$23 billion. Looking ahead, by 2030 it is estimated that adaptation costs will range between US$140-300 billion per year. Even with a large increase in public sector contributions, the volume of finance required to support adaptation in developing countries is far beyond what most expect public finance will be able to contribute.

Greater engagement with the private sector is at the forefront of UNDP’s recent adaptation initiatives, with a range of financial and non-financial instruments being used to facilitate enhanced private investment to manage the risks associated with climate change.

UNDP’s climate change adaptation work with the private sector is organized around the “3 Cs” framework that also informs overall UNDP engagement with the private sector – Convening, Catalyzing & Capitalizing.
