But why is Resource Efficiency important for Asia and the Pacific?</p> <p>Did you know that, on average, the Asia-Pacific requires almost double the material resources per US$ of economic output than the world average, making it one of the most resource inefficient regions of the world? This comes at great environmental and economic costs as material, energy, water, and land resources become ever scarcer and whose exploitation and misuse contributes greatly to climate change, land degradation, and other environmental catastrophes.</p> <p>However, this does not need to be the case. By understanding the principles of Resource Efficiency and how to measure and monitor it, there are a host of economic, social and environmental gains to be had by enacting Resource Efficient policy pathways (you can simulate gains from Resource Efficiency improvements in your country by using the UN ESCAP <a href="https://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/re/index.html">Resource Efficiency Simulation Tool</a> [REST]).</p> <p>Structured into two Modules, this course will build your understanding of:</p> <ul><li>What Resource Efficiency is about and how to measure it ?</li> <li>Why Resource Efficiency is important for sustainable development ?</li> <li>What polices can enable a transition to a Resource Efficient Asia-Pacific, with practical examples from the region ?</li> </ul><p>Finally, the course concludes with a short quiz and those successfully completing the quiz will be awarded a certificate free of cost. The course itself is free, delivered in English, and does not require a considerable investment of time or a strong background in the subject as the material is overview and conveniently concise and condensed.</p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-link field--type-link field--label-hidden field__item"><a href="https://sdghelpdesk-elearning.unescap.org/thematicarea/detail?id=15" target="_blank">Enroll</a></div> <div class="field field--name-field-course-category field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Course Category</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/course-categories/circular-economy" hreflang="en">Circular Economy</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/course-categories/resource-efficiency" hreflang="en">Resource Efficiency</a></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-sdgs field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">SDGs</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/SDGs/sdg8-decent-work-and-economic-growth" hreflang="en">SDG8 Decent Work and Economic Growth</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/SDGs/sdg9-industry-innovation-and-infrastructure" hreflang="en">SDG9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/SDGs/sdg11-sustainable-cities-and-communities" hreflang="en">SDG11 Sustainable Cities and Communities</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/SDGs/sdg12-responsible-consumption-and-production" hreflang="en">SDG12 Responsible Consumption and Production</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/SDGs/sdg13-climate-action" hreflang="en">SDG13 Climate Action</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/SDGs/sdg14-life-below-water" hreflang="en">SDG14 Life Below Water</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/SDGs/sdg15-life-land" hreflang="en">SDG15 Life on Land</a></div> </div> </div> <span class="a2a_kit a2a_kit_size_32 addtoany_list" data-a2a-url="http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/e-learning/resource-efficiency-course" data-a2a-title="Resource Efficiency Course"><a class="a2a_button_facebook"></a><a class="a2a_button_twitter"></a><a class="a2a_button_linkedin"></a></span> Wed, 12 Jun 2019 03:26:20 +0000 cmortelliti 921 at http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org Circular Economy and the 2030 Agenda http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/e-learning/circular-economy-and-2030-agenda <span class="field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden">Circular Economy and the 2030 Agenda</span> <div class="field field--name-field-image field--type-image field--label-hidden field__item"> <img loading="lazy" src="http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/sites/default/files/2020-04/UNSSC%20Circular%20Economy.png" width="530" height="340" alt="Circular Economy and the 2030 Agenda" typeof="foaf:Image" /></div> <span class="field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden"><span lang="" about="http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/user/132" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="" xml:lang="">cmortelliti</span></span> <span class="field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden">Thu, 23/04/2020</span> <div class="clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item"><p>This course will explore the application of Circular Economy (CE) practices in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.</p> <p>Four years into the implementation of the Agenda, it is evident that ‘business as usual’ will not help us to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Systems-based approaches along with a strong commitment to deep rooted transformations and actions are vital to the reduction of humanity's footprint in our planet. Our resources are finite and the principles and practices of the circular economy will be catalytic in creating goods, processes and ecosystems that are restorative and regenerative by design.</p> <p>The course will focus on ‘how’ and ‘why’ minimizing waste generation and maintaining the value of products and resources for as long as possible will be critical to achieving the goal of the 2030 Agenda - sustainable development for all.   </p> <p>Theoretical, practical and case study based approaches will be used to illustrate and support the concepts. The course will be strongly application-based, with numerous real-life examples from around the world, and will include tools useful to advance CE practices. There will be inputs from high-level speakers from the UN system, think tanks, private sector as well as academia. Participants will get the opportunity to engage with the distinguished experts through live webinars. Assignments, exercises, quizzes and peer sharing across the different modules of the course will benefit the participants and add to their learning.</p> <p><strong>Objectives</strong></p> <p>Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:</p> <ul><li>Demonstrate the interconnection between Circular Economy strategies and their potential in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development</li> <li>Explain the butterfly diagram of circularity through technical and biological cycles of products and resources</li> <li>Apply a system-thinking approach to designing out waste and pollution from the life cycle of products and services</li> <li>Understand the ways that value can be generated and retained by keeping materials and products in use</li> <li>Recognize the value of urban ecosystems as hubs to regenerate natural systems</li> </ul></div> <div class="field field--name-field-link field--type-link field--label-hidden field__item"><a href="https://unssc.org/circular-economy-and-2030-agenda/" target="_blank">Enroll</a></div> <div class="field field--name-field-course-category field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">Course Category</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/course-categories/circular-economy" hreflang="en">Circular Economy</a></div> </div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-sdgs field--type-entity-reference field--label-above"> <div class="field__label">SDGs</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/SDGs/sdg12-responsible-consumption-and-production" hreflang="en">SDG12 Responsible Consumption and Production</a></div> </div> </div> <span class="a2a_kit a2a_kit_size_32 addtoany_list" data-a2a-url="http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/e-learning/circular-economy-and-2030-agenda" data-a2a-title="Circular Economy and the 2030 Agenda"><a class="a2a_button_facebook"></a><a class="a2a_button_twitter"></a><a class="a2a_button_linkedin"></a></span> Thu, 23 Apr 2020 10:58:52 +0000 cmortelliti 1410 at http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org Strengthening monitoring and evaluation for adaptation planning in the agriculture sectors http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/e-learning/strengthening-monitoring-and-evaluation-adaptation-planning-agriculture-sectors <span class="field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden">Strengthening monitoring and evaluation for adaptation planning in the agriculture sectors</span> <div class="field field--name-field-image field--type-image field--label-hidden field__item"> <img loading="lazy" src="http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/sites/default/files/2020-03/screen_shot_2019-12-16_at_12.51.59_pm.png" width="400" height="569" alt="Strengthening monitoring and evaluation for adaptation planning in the agriculture sectors" typeof="foaf:Image" /></div> <span class="field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden"><span lang="" about="http://sdghelpdesk.unescap.org/user/56" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="" xml:lang="">temp</span></span> <span class="field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden">Tue, 10/03/2020</span> <div class="clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item"><p class="text-align-justify">The importance of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of climate change adaptation has been highlighted at global level, including under the Paris Agreement.
