SDG 12.1 Reporting for SWITCH-Asia Countries – Connecting the dots between actions and reporting

The EU funded SWITCH-Asia programme has been promoting sustainable and inclusive growth as well as contributing to the economic prosperity; poverty reduction; and the transition towards a low-carbon, resource-efficient and circular economy in Asia. Since it was launched in 2007, it has achieved more than a decade of progress on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) in 24 countries in the region.

Properly reporting that progress is important in order to follow up on strong commitments and policies contributing to SCP as well as to encourage cooperation on SCP and to highlight the progress achieved. Connecting the dots between actions and reporting is therefore the next big step towards a region with sustainable consumption and production patterns.

Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12, is the SDG focus on SCP. The first target under SDG 12 (SDG 12.1) is reporting on the national implementation of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes (10YFP), established at Rio+20 in 2012. This target is a very comprehensive target and covers different national SCP policies and instruments.

One Planet Network, a multi-stakeholder partnership for sustainable development formed to implement the commitment of the 10 YFP, has opened a process of reporting which represents a perfect opportunity for countries benefited from SWITCH-Asia activities to report on SDG 12.1. To facilitate that process, One Planet has developed an online reporting platform, which all 10YFP NFPs will be using to submit their country’s official report on SDG12.1.
